MRD Energy is giving a discount of 10% to all FPL or Progress Energy customers in Florida counties as their electricity supplier. MRD Energy manufactures energy saving and surge protection equipment in Miami Lakes, FL for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Florida Power and Light (FPL) has announced a rate increase effective Jan 5, 2005 where residential customers bills will increase by approximately $16.99 per 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh), to $108.61. Commercial and industrial customers’ bills will increase from 29 to 41 percent, since fuel makes up a larger portion of those bills. (1)

Progress Energy Florida under-recovered 2004 fuel costs as the prices of coal, natural gas and fuel oil continue to rise. Progress Energy filed with the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) to recover these fuel costs, and on Nov. 10, 2004, the PSC approved an increase of $278 million for 2005 and allowed us to defer $79 million until 2006. This will result in an increase to the average 2005 residential bill (1,000 kWh) of $5.32 - from $89.11 to $94.43. It has not yet been calculated how the deferral will impact 2006 rates. (2)

MRD Energy’s commercial customers are seeing a monthly savings of between eight and forty-eight percent per month. This represents an ROI of between 4 and 14 months on average dependant on usage.
